Christmas Period 2008 on GBF

To celebrate the festive season, GBF have a quintet of new PlayStation 2 reviews coming your way over the next few weeks, where we pass judgement on KOEI's mass-slaughter fest Warriors Orochi 2 and Namco's shoot 'em up Dead To Rights 2. Elsewhere, retro shoot 'em up fans will get their fill with the unheralded XII Stag and you'll also get to see whether toy bricks and sci-fi movies make for the ideal wacky partnership as LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game gets a thorough play test. The main review in the run up to Christmas concerns Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror - can the much-lauded PSP title make the tricky transition to the PS2 and make up for the disappointing Omega Strain?

Christmas and beyond will see an unusually (for us!) up-to-the-minute review as we sink our teeth into the American import version of Silent Hill: Homecoming - so you'll know whether it's all been worth the wait before its slated UK release! Along with this, the PS3 section should be bolstered over the coming months, with reviews covering several genres - Resistance: Fall of Man; WipEout HD and LittleBigPlanet to name but a few of the titles we've got lined up. Oh, and fans of Resident Evil may be interested to learn of a certain feature that will see the light of day in the near future...

...And if you're thinking that's a rather game heavy schedule and you want a bit more culture for your bucks, we have both a fifties science-fiction novel (Isaac Asimov's The Caves Of Steel) and a Brazilian art-cinema film (Behind The Sun) to keep you happy. What more could you ask for?

GBF's aim, as ever, will be to provide a similar level of detailed written analysis on all of the above whether they turn out to be good, bad or simply indifferent.A fair bit of my older work has featured elsewhere on the Internet, and it's fair to say the stuff I wrote when I was fifteen/sixteen needed a bit of a tidy-up. Thus, I will over the next couple of weeks be adding to the list of reviews (below) that I have tweaked to bring into line with the newer stuff. Bear with me though - there's a lot of text to get through! Here are the ones I've overhauled thus far:

OLD REVIEWS REVISED/UPDATED:
Dino Crisis 2 (PSOne)
Evil Dead: Hail to the King (PSOne)
Pandemonium!  (PSOne)
Resident Evil 3: Nemesis (PSOne)
